Epcot Tips
EPCOT, the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, opened on October 1, 1982. It was conceived by Walt Disney to “take its cue from the new ideas and new technologies that are now emerging from the creative centers of American industry.
Must do’s:
- Soarin’. Fantastic ride! Slow, beautiful, educational, great for kids and gramps. Definitely something to see.
- Very cute, slow ride. Nothing scary for kids. It’ll drop you off into an amazing aquarium building with sharks, a manatee, sea horses, etc.
- Living with the Land. We love this ride. COVID made this one much less interesting because of the plastic panels, but you’ll still see and learn a lot. It’s a slow boat ride that takes you on a tour of Epcot’s hydroponics where they grow produce and fish that are actually used in the resorts. Quite impressive.
- YES. Not scary at all. A bit of a fast part, but it’s really cute and sweet. An Epcot favorite for most guests.
- World Showcase – all the way around, that’s what Epcot is really all about. Take your time, splurge on something weird to eat. I’m super cheap when it comes to buying food, but we always buy a weird thing or two and each have a bite. Canada has great Maple Popcorn
- Three Caballeros. It’s a very weird little boat ride inside the Mexico pyramid. It’s weird, but you’ll probably have time to try it. You want to go inside the pyramid anyways, and there’s usually no line for the ride (because it’s weird).
- Test Track. I have a hard time with putting this as a must-do, but people love it. I love it and I hate it, honestly. It’s basically a giant Chevy commercial with a long line, and a really, really fun 45 seconds or so. Super fun 45 seconds, but I really hate the rest of the ride. The fun part outweighs the part I hate, so that’s why it made the must-do list.
- Spaceship Earth. It’s the ride that’s just past the park entrance, in the big Epcot golf ball. I love this ride. Slow moving, very educational and interesting. Tell kids that they should listen and not talk through this one. And you can’t go to Epcot and not go in the Epcot ball!
